DEET Active Substance's Approval End Date Has Been Postponed
What is DEET?
DEET repels biting and flying insects such as houseflies, mites, fleas, mosquitoes, and ticks. It can be added to spray products, lotions, and wipes in a wide range of concentrations and applied directly to human skin or clothing.
Postponement of ECHA’s Approval End Date for DEET
According to the announcement by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health, ECHA previously set the approval period for DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide), an active substance in product type 19 biocidal products, as December 31, 2025.
However, with the European Commission Decision 2024/2950 dated December 3, 2024, and in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 528/2012 of the European Parliament and the Council, this date has been postponed to January 31, 2027.
The Ministry of Health has stated that companies can submit a “License Period Extension” application through the ÜTS system for PT-19 biocidal products containing the relevant active substance and licensed with a validity period until December 31, 2025, along with the completed long-term stability analyses. Thus the market availability period of approximately 12 licensed PT-19 biocidal products containing this active substance in the Licensed Products List of the Turkish Ministry will be extended until January 31, 2027.
