What is a “Cleaning Product Containing Strong Acid/Base”?

Cleaning products containing a certain amount of strong acid or strong base are defined as “Cleaning Products Containing Strong Acid or Base”.

Cleaning Products and Detergents Containing Strong Acid or Strong Base

Cleaning products containing strong acid or strong base and products evaluated within the scope of detergents have almost the same claim. Both product groups carry a cleaning claim.

As can be understood from the name, cleaning products containing strong acid or strong base must necessarily contain a strong acid or a strong base. However, not only the presence of such substances in the product composition, but also the amount used and the area of use are important. In addition, since such products contain strong acid or strong base, their pH values must fall within a specific range. In brief, the main difference between products evaluated within this scope and detergents is the concentration of strong acid/base in the composition and/or the pH value.

Product groups meeting these criteria, such as degreasers and descaling products, were previously evaluated under the “Communiqué on the Principles Regarding the Production, Import, Market Surveillance and Inspection, and Notification of Cleaning Products Containing Strong Acid or Base”, in addition to carrying a cleaning claim. However, since the relevant instruction has now been repealed, these products are also included within the scope of the Detergents Regulation. Similarly, in European Union countries, the Detergents Regulation is taken as the basis.

Legal Compliance of Cleaning Products Containing Strong Acid/Base

The obligation to notify the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Customs and Trade for “Cleaning Products Containing Strong Acid/Base” before placing them on the market in Türkiye has been abolished. However, manufacturers or importers placing products on the market within the scope of the legislation must keep the product’s Safety Data Sheet, label and technical dossier within the company in order to submit them to the Ministry upon request.

The technical dossier contains detailed information on the product and documents proving that the necessary permissions have been obtained to demonstrate that the product is not harmful to health. This dossier does not need to be submitted to the Ministry; however, it must be kept ready within the notifying company for inspections. The dossier in question is prepared by the product owner company.
