After the KKDIK (Turkey REACH) Regulation came into force in 2017, certain obligations have arisen for manufacturers, importers, goods manufacturers, and downstream users. Some of these are the preparation of substance registration dossiers, conducting chemical safety assessments, and the preparation of Chemical Safety Reports (CSR), Exposure Scenarios (ES), and Extended Safety Data Sheets (eSDS), and doing all this work requires expertise. Within the scope of the KKDIK Regulation, chemical assessment specialists are authorized to carry out the technical and scientific tasks in question. Those who want to become a Chemical Assessment Specialist must participate in the relevant exam and obtain a certificate. However, there are certain requirements for participating in this exam.
How to Become a Chemical Assessment Specialist and What are the Requirements?
Individuals aspiring to become a Chemical Assessment Specialist,
- must complete in-person training consisting of 64 compulsory courses prepared under KKDIK Annex 18, from an institution approved by the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and
- must be graduated from a bachelor's program in Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Sciences within the faculties of Science/Arts and Sciences or Engineering, or,
- must have a Master's/PhD degree in chemistry or,
- must have a minimum of five years of experience in chemical production, quality control, laboratory work, or chemical management, even if they have graduated from other bachelor's programs at universities.
Candidates who meet these requirements are eligible to participate in the Chemical Assessment Specialist exam. Candidates who are successful in the exam, obtain the Chemical Assessment Specialist certificate.

Thus, individuals gain the right to take the exam and, with the knowledge they have acquired during the courses, can complete the exam and obtain a certificate, allowing them to work in companies involved in the manufacture or import of chemicals and provide consultancy in this field. Chemical Assessment Specialist Examination
The Chemical Assessment Specialist Exam takes a total of 180 minutes (3 hours). The exam includes 25 multiple-choice questions on topics such as legislation, chemicals management, and classification information, and 6 essay questions on the topics of human health risk assessment, environmental risk assessment, exposure scenarios, Chemical Safety Report, SDS preparation, and registration dossier preparation. The total number of questions is 31 and the exam result is calculated based on a scale of 100 points. The passing score of the certification exam is 70.
